Driver foreground-location notice

Why SchoolBus Driver requests precise location while an active school-bus trip is open on the phone.

Prominent disclosure

SchoolBus Driver uses your precise location while a trip is open to share the bus position with your school and the families on your route, and to record stops and arrival at school. It collects location only while an assigned trip is active and the app is open on screen, and never in the background. Tracking pauses if you lock the phone or leave the app.

The school also uses the bus position to estimate route progress, warn when tracking is stale, and send the trip notices described in the privacy notice.

When collection starts and stops

Collection begins only after an assigned Driver explicitly starts or rejoins an active trip, allows precise location while using the app, and keeps SchoolBus Driver open on screen. The app never asks for “Always” or background location access, and it keeps the screen on while a trip is open so the automatic screen lock does not interrupt tracking. Collection pauses whenever the app is not in the foreground and stops when the trip completes, is cancelled or aborted, the user logs out or loses the assignment, or the controlling installation is revoked.

If permission is denied or removed

The user can deny or revoke location permission, or switch off precise location, in the phone’s settings. An active trip cannot provide live tracking without precise location. Dispatch sees stale/offline state and follows the school call-tree fallback. The Driver must not troubleshoot a phone while driving.

Limits and retention

A locked screen, leaving the app, phone power, the phone’s operating system or battery settings, permission changes, GPS quality, force-stop, and network coverage can interrupt tracking. Location and ETA are estimates, not emergency guarantees. Raw GPS points follow the SchoolBus retention schedule and ordinary logs are designed to redact coordinates.
